Notes: For RAS at Intercomm (I'm not going through that mess with the community names again).
Oh yes and it's another Coldplay inspired fic. Although this one is extremely loosely based. And even if you don't like Robin/Marian it has little Scarletts, therefore worth a read? Maybe? Just the first two paragraphs?

Dearly beloved are you listening?- not a quote, just a line of a song that just came up on itunes.  )

Daybreak

The day dawns and, miraculously, you are still here with me. Sleep keeps claim on you for the moment, your breathing deep and even. Restful sleep is a rarity for you, I imagine. Your face peaceful and relaxed, carefree even.

I watch the rise and fall of your chest, and enjoy the feeling of having you near, if only for a little while longer, and even if you sleep through it. Our time together is rare and usually short.

A moment later, your eyes open and you still as you assess your circumstance. Breathing resumes as you realize you are safe. A smile breaks across your face as you remember what we did here.

You look at me and your eyes are the color of a sun-dappled meadow in spring and I catch my breath.

Thinking About Her

Marian's smile and the sparkle of her blue eyes swam in Robin's mind's eye. The sound of her voice saying his name drifted through his mind like a wispy fog, teasing his memory and his body. He could almost feel her arms around his neck, her lips under his...her body molded against him, the moist warmth of her breath across his shoulder....

“He's got that faraway look in his eyes,” said Much.

“And that dreamy expression on his face,” added Will.

John shrugged, glancing at Robin. “Aye.”

“He's thinking of her,” Much said. “Again.”

“Leave him alone,” admonished Djaq. “I think it's cute.”

“Not bein' funny, but he's gettin' fidgety in his britches, too,” said Allan.

“That's...that's...disgusting,” huffed Much.

Everyone laughed, but Robin ignored them.

He loved thinking about her.

The Best Day

The rays of the late afternoon sun slanted across the commons of Locksley Village.

Much, Will, John, and Allan had just been pardoned for their so-called crimes against the king and finally stood tall and proud as redeemed men. Robin was glad that his faithful friends had been restored. And now, it was his turn...

Robin knelt, his head bowed.

King Richard touched each of Robin's shoulders with the flat side of his sword. “I hereby reinstate you as the Earl of Huntingdon and Lord of Locksley and confer upon you all rights and responsibilities therewith.”

The gang, along with the Locksley villagers, clapped and cheered as Robin rose.

“Thank you, Sire,” he said, his voice rough with relief and happiness. He'd been waiting for this day for years. He had his lands back, and now he could serve his people properly once more. But more importantly...“Sire, if I could be so bold...?”

“Your boldness saved my life on several occasions, Robin. What else can I do for you?” asked the king with a benevolent chuckle.

Robin turned to Marian. She was so beautiful with her dark hair and creamy skin. He held out a hand to her. “Will you marry us, Sire?”

Marian stepped forward and clasped Robin's hand, curtseying to the king. “Sire.”

King Richard smiled widely. “I'd be honored.”

Robin nodded. If he'd been anxiously awaiting the day he got his lands back, this was really the moment he'd been dreaming of for seven long years. A moment he sometimes doubted would ever come. But here it was and all the more special for the hurdles in getting here.

The gang gathered round, forming a circle around Robin, Marian, and the king.

Robin looked at each of his friends in turn. Much nodded, although Robin couldn't decipher the look on his face. Will and Djaq held hands, grinning. John stood tall and silent, Robin could swear he wore a smile underneath all that facial hair, but it was difficult to tell. Allan stood watching solemnly, although he smiled when he met Robin's gaze.

At last, Robin turned back to Marian. She smiled brightly at him, and the love shining in her deep blue eyes stole his breath. His own heart swelled and he could hardly wait to make her his. He never imagined that he could be so happy and content. All he wanted now—

“Ahem...Robin shall we...?”prompted the king.

Robin blinked and nodded, focusing on his bride-to-be once more.

The guests chuckled and tittered, but Robin refused to be embarrassed by his enchantment with Marian.

“Robin, will you have this woman to be thy wedded wife, to live together after God's ordinance in the holy estate of matrimony?”

“I will.”

“Marian, will you have this man to be thy wedded husband, to live together after God's ordinance in the holy estate of matrimony?”

“I will.”

“You may kiss the bride.”

And Robin did.

On This New Year's Eve

Robin helped Marian through the window, off the ledge, and onto the horse. He settled behind her, wrapping her thick cloak about them both. He clicked to the horse and snapped the reins lightly.

The full moon hung high in the velvet sky, its bright white glow glistening on the snow, its surface pristine save the trail of the horse. The icy air was biting and fresh, and Robin's nose tingled with each inhalation.

“Where are we going?” Marian asked, her breath coming out in puffs in the crisp cold night.

“You'll see,” he said.

The horse plodded along for a time and finally stopped on the precipice overlooking the River Trent and the landscape beyond.

“It's beautiful, but what are we doing here?”

Bong...bong...bong...

When he didn't answer, she turned in his embrace and smiled up at him, the moon's glow lighting her face, casting a silvery radiance across her cheeks.

Robin's breath caught at her beauty. He cupped her head, tunneling his fingers into the silkiness of her hair, and kissed her.

When the kiss ended, he rested his forehead against hers, and said, “Happy New Year, Marian.”

“I love you, Robin.”
